East Roswell Library Name Approved

The Fulton Library trustees bowed to sentiment in its second attempt to name the new branch.

The Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System trustees listened to community sentiment in the naming of a new branch in East Roswell.

After rejecting the proposed Holcombe Glen name in August, the trustees have agreed to call it the East Roswell Library after all.

Lynn McIntyre, a member of the library naming committee, told Roswell Patch earlier this week that an overwhelming number of nominations were in favor of the East Roswell name after the public was solicited a second time.

It's a name Mayor Jere Wood has said was divisive, but the Roswell Neighbor reported this week he's fine with it now.

But East Roswell residents haven't been afraid to be vocal in what they want from their new library, in addition to the name, as they sounded off in a 2011 public forum.

A groundbreaking took place in early September for the branch, located at the corner of Holcomb Bridge and Fouts roads, and it's expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2014.

The new library will sit on city-donated former farmland in the heart of what's commonly referred to as East Roswell.

A bit further down on Fouts is East Roswell Park, which next week will welcome The Arts Center on Fouts Road.

It's a city-renovated home that will become the new home for the Roswell Fine Arts Alliance. The official name doesn't include "East," but on the RFAA website, it's referred to as ACE -- as in Arts Center East.
