First Unified Development Code Input Meeting Scheduled

The city will soon undertake a massive project, clarifying and redrawing Roswell's zoning ordinances.

Roswell will hold a listening session toward the end of the month to kick off public input and engagement for the Unified Development Code (UDC) project.

According to the city, the UDC project will clarify the Roswell zoning ordinance, as well as make the development process simpler, while protecting property owners.

During the meeting, a brief presentation will be given on the purpose of the new UDC, the stakeholder committee appointed by Mayor Jere Wood and the Roswell City Council will be introduced, a question and answer session will be held and information on how to stay involved throughout the project will be discussed.

The time frame for the UDC project is approximately 18-24 months and many more opportunities for public input will be scheduled throughout the length of the project.

Community Development Liaison Councilmember Nancy Diamond says public input is crucial to the process.

“This is a real opportunity for citizens to have a say in how our code is shaped for years to come," she said. "While most residential neighborhoods won't see a big difference, there may be some additional zoning options or ordinance changes.  In the commercial areas, where we hope to simplify the process, decisions will need to be made. In those areas where commercial and residential meet, we'll be looking at the best transition solutions. The more input we have from those directly impacted, the better the end result will be.”

The meeting will be held on June 20 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. at Roswell City Hall Council Chambers.
