The rollout of the Affordable Health Care Act and its website, healthcare.gov, have gotten a lot of attention for the difficulties people were having enrolling. Fulton County and its partners will host an enrollment summit on Saturday, Dec. 14, at four locations throughout the county.

Enroll America's navigators will be on hand from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. to help local residents go through the process, including actual enrollment. They will have computers available so residents can enroll, according to Jessica Corbitt-Dominguez of the Fulton Office of Communications.

The Get Covered America campaign and Fulton County Government, with support from Cognosante, Family Health Centers of Georgia (formerly West End Medical Center), and Southside Medical Center, will host the Health Insurance Marketplace Enrollment Summit. The goal of the four-part event is to provide uninsured and underinsured Fulton County residents with information and assistance to explore the new health insurance options made available by the Affordable Care Act. Coverage would start Jan. 1, 2014, for applicants enrolled by the Dec. 23 deadline.

There are close to 157,000 uninsured Fulton County residents, and countless others who are underinsured, according to the news release. Since adopting a resolution supporting the Affordable Care ACt, Fulton County government has actively partnered with Get Covered America on community awareness and outreach efforts. This will be the first large-scale, enrollment focused event.

“In Fulton County, 23 percent of working-aged, uninsured people stand to gain affordable health insurance – many for the first time. That’s why it’s crucial for our residents to understand the benefits they are now eligible for on the new, health insurance Marketplace and how the Affordable Care Act can provide financial security for their entire families,” said Chairman John Eaves.
