Fulton to Teach Local Seniors How to Use Smartphones, Tablets, Skype

The latest in electronic communications will be taught to Fulton County senior citizens in two step-by-step workshops.

Fulton County and AT&T want seniors to embrace the latest electronic communications technology through workshops on how to use items, such as smartphones, tablets and apps, or applications.

Two senior multipurpose facilities will host two workshops known as “Senior Tech Rallies”. Both rallies will be open to registered multipurpose program participants.

The first workshop will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 12 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Dorothy C. Benson Senior Multipurpose Complex. Benson is located at 6500 Vernon Woods Drive in Sandy Springs. The second workshop will be held on Thursday, Dec. 14 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Harriett G. Darnell Senior Multipurpose Facility located at 677 Fairburn Road NW.

The introduction to smartphones and tablet workshops will help seniors to stay connected to their children and grandchildren. They will learn to send and receive text messages, use mobile email and web, share photos, Skype, and download apps. They will also see the advantages of using tablets to read books anywhere at any time. Hands-on Training will be provided with 200 Smartphones and Tablets per event. Seniors who already own smartphones or tablets can bring their devices to obtain assistance at the “help desk” during breaks.

Other support resources will include an Online Fan Club, printed guidebooks and website. An optional offsite support trip will also be offered to attendees.
