Future of Frazier Street: Luxury Apartments Coming?

Several meetings regarding the area are on the city's calendar.

If you have a specific view on the future of Frazier Street Apartments, you'll soon get your chance to share it when the city convenes several meetings regarding the property's future and proposed plans for luxury apartments.

According to Roswell Planning & Zoning Director Brad Townsend, the proposed development would be for 320 "shacked flats" in a complex that could be three to four stories tall, if allowed via the Groveway Overlay conditional approval of the Roswell City Council. The complex plans call for a 45 foot height maximum, 9-feet under the overlay's 54 foot allowance.

Lennar Multi-Family Investors LLC hopes to raze and rebuild the current 150-unit apartment complex on 10.6 acres near the historic district. The project - tetatively called Canton Street Walk, according to reports - would most likely appeal to young profesionals who want an urban-suburban lifestyle and easy access to the historic district's up-and-coming vibrance.

But, the upscale project would obviously mean a change in renter's demographics with per month rental costs ranging from $1,000 for a 625-square-foot one-bedroom flat to $2,400 for a two-bedroom plus den unit, according to a Revue & News article.

The Historic Preservation Commission will review and discuss the plan during its meeting, March 13. That meeting will be followed by a neighborhood meeting, March 21; a Roswell Planning Commission meeting on April 16 and, finally, a Roswell City Council meeting on May 13.
