Last Chance: Hours Extended at Many Post Offices for Last-Minute Tax Filers

Several metro-Atlanta Post Offices are offering extended hours on April 17.

Here is a list of important dates that we think Roswell residents will want to know as they start their week.

The will operate normal business hours on Tuesday, April 17, tax day.

There are two Post Office options in Roswell:

Roswell Main Office, 8920 Eves Road, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Roswell Postal Store, 10719 Alpharetta Highway, 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

There are also several metro-Atlanta Post Offices offering extended hours for last minute tax filers.

The Atlanta Main Post Office, 3900 Crown Road, which is open from 6 a.m. until midnight year round and the Boggs Road Postal Store, 1605 Boggs Road in Duluth, normally open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., will both be staffed to collect returns until midnight on April 17.

The tax-filing deadline is typically today, April 15, however filers will have two extra days this year because of Emancipation Day, a legal holiday in Washington, D.C., that will be observed this year on Monday, April 16. Under the federal tax code, filing deadlines can't fall on Saturdays, Sundays or holidays.

Atlanta District Manager Sal Vacca recommends dropping off tax forms early in the day Tuesday to avoid last minute long lines.

Other tips to consider:

  • Hand your returns to outside collection employees (where available)
  • Use Self Service Ship and Mail Centers for stamp purchases
  • Double check returns for the proper address and correct postage
  • Mail weighing 13 ounces or more must be presented at the retail counter

Hours of operation for the following Post Offices in nearby towns:

Alpharetta Main Office, 2400 Old Milton Parkway, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Alpharetta Webb Bridge Road, 4575 Webb Bridge Road, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Woodstock Main Office, 225 Parkway 575, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m

Only three days left to reserve a spot for next weekend's Curry Cravings Supper Club.

The "Getting Fresh, Dining in the Dark and Other Incredible Adventures" menu includes a raw salad bar, locally grown fresh herbs, veggies and fruits, spicy meats, cheeses and wines. Dessert will be a selection of local honeycombs.

Cost is $45 per person for dinner. Add a belly dancing lesson for $15 (the lesson is optional).
