Johns Creek is Asking Roswell to Help Pay for Light

The Johns Creek City Council on Monday approved a letter to be sent to Roswell city officials asking them to help in the cost of a traffic signal at a dangerous intersection.

About two-thirds of the intersection at Nesbitt Ferry and Brumbelow roads is in Roswell, with the rest in the Johns Creek right-of-way. After numerous inquiries from Johns Creek residents, the city of Johns Creek conducted studies and determined that the intersection needs a traffic light for safety purposes.

Johns Creek earmarked funds for the light – which will cost about $200,000 – , but still would like Roswell to consider paying for half.

The attached letter addressed to Roswell Mayor Jere Wood and Roswell's city council states that talks between both cities' public works department have led to "nothing fruitful."

"The city of Roswell has not received the letter yet from John’s Creek," Roswell Spokeswoman Julie Brechbill told Patch in an e-mail. "Once we do, it will be taken to Mayor & Council during a committee meeting for discussion."

Johns Creek Mayor Mike Bodker said at Monday's city council meeting that the city could be held liable if an accident occurs at that intersection and the city hasn't acted on the safety studies.

"I'm always disappointed when we have to take something like this public to encourage our neighbors to do the right thing," Bodker said.
