Local Residents to Follow New Flood Map Appeal Process
Don't agree with the new flood maps that were revealed last fall? Now's your chance to say so.
The Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) have officially begun the 90-day appeal process for the preliminary updated, digital flood hazard maps which were released in October 2011. This appeal process ends August 1.
The maps show the extent to which areas throughout Roswell are at risk for flooding. Used to help determine flood insurance and building requirements, the new maps will replace maps that are up to 13 years old.
These proposed flood hazard determinations, if finalized, will become the basis for the floodplain management measures that the city must adopt to remain qualified for participation in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
