MARTA has scheduled a meeting with two Sandy Springs neighborhood associations to discussed its proposed Connect 400 Project

The agency will meet with residents of the Northridge and Roberts Drive neighborhood associations at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 12 at Dunwoody Community Church, located at 2250 Dunwoody Club Drive.

Representatives will be meeting with residents to review a proposal to extend MARTA service, either by rail or rapid-bus line, north from the current North Springs MARTA Station to S.R. 400's Windward Parkway interchange in Alpharetta.

MARTA is in phase two of its multi-stage planning process, which is required by the federal Department of Transportation. MARTA plans to seek federal funds to supplement state and local funds to construct the expansion.

Preliminary studies favor expanding MARTA either by heavy rail, which could use existing DOT right of way along S.R. 400 northbound, including the possibility of continuing north along the east side of the highway from the existing North Springs Station, or by using specially designated rapid-bus lanes along S.R. 400.

Preliminary plans also call for building five or six MARTA stations, from Northridge Road north to Windward Parkway, where a regional transportation station similar to North Springs would be built.
