Michael Martin Hopes to Stamp Out Local Crime

Remodeling expert Michael Martin runs for Post 2 against current Councilwoman Becky Wynn, as well as residents Lee Fleck, Salma Ahmed and Adam Braund.

Michael Martin wasn't born in Roswell, but he was raised here; and a love for his hometown is what pushes him to roll up his sleeves and campaign for the Roswell City Council Post 2 seat.

Following an early childhood spent traipsing around several nothern states, Martin's family settled near the corner of Jones and Bowen roads in Roswell during January of 1975. He attended and eventually,. The longtime sports fan played football for the Roswell Hornets and served as a grappler for the school's wrestling team, beginning what would nearly be a lifelong love for the feeling of community in this city.

The owner of Martin Construction Company since 1985, Martin has spent years building, fixing and remodeling local homes and buildings, but now he sees the need to make some adjustments to the Roswell City Council.

"I feel that my twenty five years experience as a self-employed remodeling expert, with an analytical mind [used to view] problem solving will be beneficial to the revitalization of this historical city," he said.

Martin, who graduated from West Georgia College with a degree in biology, believes local crime is a good place to begin the revitalizing.

"If elected I wish to address crime with more awareness and presence by those who serve and protect," he told Roswell Patch.

He also believes the city's infrastructure and housing markets are in need of an overhaul.

We need "continued rebuilding and improving of our infrastructure, [as well as] renovation of our housing to better accommodate new families moving into this enchanted town," he said.

Martin has been married to the "love of his life," Sherry, since 1993. The couple have two children at Roswell High School, Alexandria and Preston. He reveals walking along the Chattahoochee and in local parks with his family and dog, Benji, as some of his favorite things to do in Roswell.

I like to "see and hear the hussle and bussle of families living, laughing and sharing good commerce [with] one another and giving cheerful smiles and head nods and hellos as they show respect to the sanctity of life in this great city I hope to grow very old in," he said.
