Nyden Races for Roswell Post 1 to 'Protect' Roswell Residents

President of BE&A, a telecommunications and consultative sales services company, Mike Nyden races against current Councilman Rich Dippolito and Thomas Shelton.

Mike Nyden was one of the first municipal candidates to announce his plans to run for a Roswell City Council post earlier this year. Now as his campaign officially gets underway it is his aim to make the city more fiscally conservative and protect the uniqueness of Roswell.

"Protection of our homes and friends is the reason I helped lead a successful effort to keep a large cell tower out of a residentially zoned property. I have urged public officials to support policies which reflect our unique position as a town," he said.

Nyden believes the city has a bright future, but has faltered from some "reckless" spending over the last several years.

"The continuation of this unsound fiscal practice will put our bond rating at risk and force the increase of taxes," he said.

He believes his corporate background helping companies maximize their bottom lines will help him carefully review where each taxpayer penny goes and how effective it is. He also hopes to better market Roswell as a business-friendly community, bringing more jobs to the area.

"In other words, we can no longer afford to simply hold planning meetings. We have some very bright citizens; let’s engage all stakeholders and implement a real plan that will bring economic stability to all areas of our city," he told Roswell Patch.

His top three objectives for the city are to:

  • "Balance the budget. Despite what some may say, the budget is not balanced if the city spends more money than it collects in a year.
  • Maintain and improve our quality of life, including the parks and recreation department and the arts, while not raising taxes.
  • Attract companies that bring jobs to town. This will have the trickle-down benefit of supporting local businesses while helping shift the tax burden off our homeowners."

This campaign is Nyden's first, although he has served as finance chairman for a Fulton County Commission candidate's campaign. He has also been an active member of the Fulton County Republican Party, a member of Bike Roswell, Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce and other groups in the region.

"I do not view service on the city council as a job in politics," Nyden said. "Rather, I view it as an honor to help protect our hometown for the residents of today as well as our next generation."

Nyden is the president of BE&A, which provides high tech, telecommunications and consultative sales services to a national and global client base. He and his wife Trudy moved to Roswell over seven years ago, after searching for a unique and vibrant community where residents were very involved, he said. The couple, who often like to golf and stroll Canton Street together, have an adult daughter who lives in northern California, where she is studying to be a midwife.

Nyden invites residents to visit his website for more information on his campaign and to see where he stands on certain issues.
