Roswell Approves Sending 'Sunday Sales' to Voters

The Roswell City Council passed an ordinance allowing the sale of alcohol "by the package" on a Sunday, but final determination is now in the hands of voters.

Those dark and lonely beer and wine aisles at your local grocery store could soon see more foot traffic on Sundays given last night’s unanimous approval by the Roswell City Council to put the issue of “Sunday sales” on the November ballot.

Following the state’s new code giving individual municipalities the ability to decide whether or not Sunday alcohol sales should be allowed, the council went forward with a city ordinance that is now contingent upon the approval of local residents.

On November 8, Roswell voters will have the power to approve the long-contested issue: to purchase or not to purchase alcohol on a Sunday. If passed by referendum the ordinance would allow anyone over the age of 21 to purchase alcohol “by the package” within the Roswell city limits on a Sunday between the hours of 12:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.
