Roswell Holds "Bring One for the Chipper"

Recycle your Christmas trees at the city of Roswell's 21st annual "Bring One for the Chipper" event on Jan. 8.

Christmas is over; not that you can tell from all of the holiday decor that still glitters and glows all around your house. And then there's the matter of that tree sitting in your living room - what do you do with it now?

One word: recycle.

The city of Roswell - known for its parkland and "green" endeavors - will hold its 21st annual "Bring One for the Chipper" event on January 8, 2011. The annual tree recycling program, which took in over 8,000 trees last year, is sponsored by Keep Roswell Beautiful, The Home Depot, 11 Alive, The Davey Tree Expert Company, Keep Georgia Beautiful, Ferry-Morse Seed Company, Kiwanis Club of Historic Roswell, Starbucks and Super Target. It's part of a statewide effort to reuse Christmas trees as mulch throughout Georgia, according to the city.

Residents are invited to bring their trees to one of the two Roswell locations - 870 Woodstock Road or 1570 Holcomb Bridge Road - on Saturday, Jan. 8, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A limited supply of seed packets will be handed out to tree recyclers, courtesy of Ferry-Morse Seed Company, and KRB will accept old or burnt out strands of Christmas lights for recycling during the event. You can also find out how to receive free mulch from the Davey Tree Expert Company once the trees are recycled.

Worried you won't be able to lift the tree on your own? Don't. KRB volunteers will be on hand to help assist.
