Roswell Homeowners Candidates Debate Cancelled

Wednesday's event was to have taken place at East Roswell Park.

A candidates forum organized by a coalition of Roswell homeowners associations and that was to have taken place on Wednesday has been cancelled.

In a message posted on the group's Facebook page, only three candidates -- and just one current Roswell City Council member up for re-election -- had agreed to participate in the event at East Roswell Park.

Council member Kent Igleheart and Roswell citizens Kendra Myers Cox and Eric Schumacher said they would attend.

Declining the invitation were council members Nancy Diamond and Jerry Orlans (opposed by Cox and Shumacher, respectively) and Roswell Planning Commission chairman Harvey Smith, who is facing Igleheart in the Nov. 5 elections.

The HOA coalition included the Martin's Landing, Horseshoe Bend, Willow Springs, Sentinel on the River, Brookfield Country Club and Edenwilde communities.

Here's the full text of the cancellation message that was posted on Sunday:

Though we received enthusiastic response from the largest HOA's in Roswell, it was determined by all involved that there is little to be gained by having yet another candidate “forum” particularly with only three candidates in attendance.

We encourage everyone to make plans to attend one of the forums, and submit your questions to the candidates for answering by all.

HOAs are encouraged to pose their questions to the candidates ontheir HOA's website, and once they've done that post them here too.

We are happy to have the responses from the candidates posted here as well to serve as a clearing-house for residents of other HOAs who may be interested in the answers.

Tonight's candidates forum sponsored by the Roswell Woman's Club begins at 7 p.m. at City Hall.

Another forum sponsored by RoswellNEXT takes place a week from tonight, Oct. 29, at the High Meadows School.
