Roswell Improves Parking, Crosswalks on Mimosa Boulevard

The city approved a budget amendment up to $68,750 to make improvements to Mimosa Boulevard.

Once Roswell's main street, Mimosa Boulevard is now a prized jewel in the city's historic district and soon it will get some polishing thanks to the approval of a budget amendment at Monday's meeting.

The city will soon see increased parking allowances, added streetscaping and enhanced pedestrian safety measures along Mimosa Boulevard.

Council agreed to taking down the current no parking signs and replacing them with signs that allow parking on the street except in front of fire hydrants or between the hours of 1:30 p.m.-5 p.m., for mail delivery. Crosswalks and an added seven parking spaces are also expected to make their way onto the street, bringing the total number of spaces up to 141.

The city will also move forward with requesting bids to add seven "bulb-outs," which are essentially sidewalk and landscaped areas that help make the distinction between travel lanes and parking lanes.

"I like this option better than the raised pavement, it looks better," said Councilman Jerry Orlans, regarding the landscaped bulb-out designs presented to council on Monday.

The city is asking for cost estimates for both raised and not-raised crosswalk options. The entire project is not to exceed $68,750, according to the council's approval.
