Roswell's New Fitness Space Dedicated to Fred Williams

Williams was the former chairman of the Roswell Recreation Commission.

The city of Roswell has dedicated the new fitness center at the Roswell Adult Recreation Center to Fred Williams, former chairman of the Roswell Recreation Commission.

Williams served on the commission for 24 years; 18 as chairman. During his time on the commission, the Recreation and Parks Department achieved many significant accomplishments, including:

  • Being recognized six times by the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association as “Department Agency of the Year”
  • Expanding city parkland from 254 to 914 acres, including the addition of Hembree Park, Big Creek Park, Leita Thompson Park and Riverside Park
  • Adding a variety of facilities to the city including: nationally-acclaimed playgrounds, tennis courts and athletic fields; skate park; mountain bike trails; disc golf course; two dog parks; two community gardens; two spraygrounds; river access points and sand volleyball courts
  • Receiving “Gold Medal Finalist” recognition twice by the National Recreation and Parks Association

The 2,500-square-foot fitness space expansion includes a new gym, three private showers, locker room and private room for personal training, stretching and massage therapy. The new gym boasts upgraded cardio and strength training machines, stretching area and closed circuit TVs for the entire room. The center is open Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. – 9 p.m.; Friday from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.; and Saturday from 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.
