Roswell to Resume UDC Meetings

A draft publication will be made public next Wednesday.

The adoption of a proposed Unified Development Code for Roswell has been delayed until early next year.

But the public will get an official look at a draft document that will be published next week.

The publication of the draft will be made public in Council Chambers on Wednesday, Nov. 13, starting at 7 p.m.

City Hall is located at 38 Hill Street.

The draft publication will begin a series of public meetings through the fall before a formal proposal is introduced and expected to be formalized in early 2014.

On Wednesday, Nov. 20, the Roswell Planning Commission will review the draft publication, and the Roswell Mayor & Council will hold a work session on Monday, Dec. 9.

A first reading of the proposed UDC has been slated for Monday, Jan. 13, with second reading and map review scheduled for Monday, Feb. 10.

The overhaul of the city's zoning code began last May, and if adopted on schedule, would become effective on March 11, 2014.

But the project has has generated some skepticism and even opposition. A group called Grow Smart Roswell has expressed its concerns that the UDC will "increase density an change Roswell's character."

Roswell resident Michael Hadden takes a more even-handed approach on his New Urban Roswell blog and claims the UDC will be a "big win for the city."
