Roswell Will Vote on Cell Tower Sites

The city is set to consider a site on Hembree Road and another on Cox Road as the future home of two cell towers.

The Roswell City Council is slated to consider approving two cell tower sites during its meeting tonight.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at Roswell City Hall, but will be preceded by a work session, which starts at 5:30 p.m.

The council is asked to approve designating Roswell Fire Station No. 6 on Cox Road and the city's Public Works fleet/transportation yard on Hembree Road as the future home of two of three cell tower sites slated to be installed in the city.

The city will defer action on approving the Fouts Road site, which has drawn opposition from some Roswell residents, to a future meeting.

To provide a more effective method of communication, the North Fulton Regional Radio System Authority went into effect on July 1. Used by emergency-response personnel such as police officers and firefighters, radio is a direct lifeline to communications centers and other public safety personnel.

A partnership among the cities of Roswell, Alpharetta, Milton and Sandy Springs, the North Fulton Unified Regional Radio System will use up-to-date technology to reduce costly maintenance issues and provide continuous coverage both inside and outside buildings throughout the northern part of the county.

Roswell plans to lease the sites to the NFRSA for construction and operation of the radio communication system.
