Save Time, Money and the Environment when You Take Transit

Take MARTA today during "Dump the Pump."

Today, Thursday, June 16, MARTA is partnering with transit agencies across the country to celebrate the American Public Transportation Association’s (APTA) sixth annual “Dump the Pump” Day, an event that encourages people to try transit and learn about the many ways it contributes to improving our quality of life.

The latest APTA Transit Savings Report shows that a two person household in Atlanta that downsizes to one car can save, on average, more than $9,000 a year.  This estimate is based on current gas prices, monthly parking rates and a person purchasing a 30-day Breeze pass. To learn just how much you can save, visit MARTA’s transit calculator

Each day, MARTA helps to take over 100,000 cars off the road – relieving traffic congestion and improving the region’s air quality. Even those who don’t take MARTA enjoy the benefits it provides. If MARTA stopped operating, annual traffic delays in Atlanta would increase by approximately 1.25 million hours and burden the region with an additional $245 million in congestion costs, which includes gas consumption, tardy deliveries and loss of employee productivity, according to the transit system.
