Blessed Trinity Sweeps North Oconee in GHSA Baseball Tournament

The Blessed Trinity Titans hosted the North Oconee Titans on Friday in a GHSA Class AA baseball tournament first round double header.  

Game one proved to be a tightly played contest between two very evenly matched baseball teams.  North Oconee scored three runs in the top half of the first inning on three singles.  Blessed Trinity came back in their half of the first with two runs. 

The second and third innings went scoreless for both teams, but Blessed Trinity picked up two runs in the bottom of the fourth when Jeff Sidlovsky scored from third on a fielders choice and Matt Pelt came in on a wild pitch.  Blessed Trinity took a 4-3 lead into the fifth inning.

Neither team was able to add runs in the fifth or sixth innings, but North Oconee put two runs on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh inning to take a 5-4 lead.  Not to be outdone, Blessed Trinity came back in the bottom of the seventh inning to even the score when Merrik Metcalf singled to drive in the tieing run. 

The tie was finally broken after three extra innings of play in the bottom of the tenth when Jeff Sidlovsky sent a two run homer over the left field fence to win the game for Blessed Trinity by a score of 7-5.

In the second game, Blessed Trinity held North Oconee scoreless through five innings.  At the same time, their bats came alive allowing them to score one run in the second inning, three runs in the fourth, and twice on a two-run homer by Ross Hampton in the fifth. 

North Oconee scored its only run of the game in the sixth inning.  In all, Blessed Trinity scored six runs on nine hits in game two to take the win by a 6-1 margin.

Blessed Trinity's sweep of both games of the double header gave them the victory in the first round best of three game series and moves them on to round two of the GHSA Class AA tournament.  Their next matchup will be on May 11 when they take on the winner of the Adairsville versus Manchester series.
