Carrollton Too Much for Centennial

Carrollton's Telvin Brown scored three touchdowns to lead the Trojans to a 48-0 rout of the Knights.

This was a game that wasn't even suppose to be played, but because of a scheduling mix-up, the Centennial Knights were forced to play one of the best teams in Georgia at the AAA level — Carrollton.

The result? Carrollton routed the Knights 48-0.

"It is what it is. We got put in a bad position scheduling.  We had a couple of teams that were going to play us, but they backed out at the last minute, so we didn't have a lot of teams to choose from," Centennial Head Coach Jeff Measor said. "I was proud of the way our kids fought. That team (Carrollton) could probably win 4A and could probably even win at 5A. Our kids played hard. I have no problem with that. We stayed healthy, so we should be fine."

Carrollton began the scoring when running back Telvin Brown scored on a 39-yard run to give the Trojans a 7-0 lead. Brown scored three first-half touchdowns and finished with 160 rushing yards. He followed the first TD with a 34-yarder to make it 14-0 with 8:20 left in the first half.

"The line did a good job opening the holes for me, and I just did what I was suppose to do", Brown said

The Trojans' defense held Centennial on the next possession, as they did virtually all night, stopping the Knights' running game and only allowing seven first downs. On the Trojans' next possession, they faced third-and-17 on their own 45 due to two penalties. However, quarterback Dallas Dickey threw a 44-yard pass to Will Garrett to the Knights' 11-yard line. Then, Brown rushed for his thrid touchdown for a 21-0 Carrollton lead.

Just as Centennial got the ball back, they turned it over. Quarterback Jimmy Meyer's pass was intercepted by Carrolton DB Jonathan Jones, leading to a 42-yard touchdown pass from Dickey to Josh Barge.  The Trojans scored again just before halftime when Dickey again found Barge for his second touchdown of the night.  Even though the PAT was missed, the Trojans enjoyed a 34-0 halftime lead.

The Trojans picked up where they left off in the third quarter when Dickey found Zach Gordon for a 28-yard touchdown pass.  Carrollton capped off the onslaught when backup quarterback Will Garrett scored on an eight-yard run.

Centennial (1-2) will try to bounce back when it travels to Wheeler next week. Carrollton improved to 2-1.
