Charter Schools - A Comparison of Approaches

During its regularly scheduled meeting on May 10, 2012, the Georgia Board of Education approved the Fulton County School System's request to become a charter system.

On Thursday May 3rd, Gov. Nathan Deal signed into law legislation that will provide additional educational opportunities for Georgia students through state
charter schools. The bill, HB 797, sets forth a new funding mechanism for these schools and establishes a State Charter Schools Commission to conduct the review process for charter school petitions and ensure that charter schools are consistent with state educational goals.

Join us for breakfast Saturday at the Country Club of Roswell where we will hear from Dr. Robert Avossa, Superintendent of Schools and Linda Schultz President of the School Board from Fulton County. Jan Jones, speaker protemp of the House who originally sponsored HB 797 will join us to discuss the benefits of this new law. We will have time to explore the two options and their similarities and differences.
