Fellowship Basketball Player Named as February's Male Student-Athlete of the Month

Roger Rickman was named as the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce's February Male Student-Athlete of the month.

The Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce's February Male Student-Athlete of the month is sophomore varsity basketball player Roger Rickman.  

Rickman is the only sophomore to be named to the Region 5 All Region Team.  He is averaging 10.2 pts. per game, has more steals than turnovers from point guard position and over twice as many assists. He led his team in seven of the nine statistical categories and was second in the other two.

He helped lead his team to its first winning season since entering the GHSA.

He currently has a 4.16 GPA and is ranked second in his sophomore class, while taking one AP course and four honors classes. He is part of the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society. He received an award for geometry and biology for having the top grade in his class. He scored an 1880 on his PSAT and a 28 on his PLAN test. 

Rickman is involved with his school’s Spanish Club and BETA Club. He volunteers at a local nursing home and also serves as a youth basketball official. He is an accomplished saxophone player and plays in the Adult Choir at First Baptist Church of Woodstock.

His father and coach, Mark Rickman said: “Anytime a father coaches his son it presents challenges for everyone involved. Roger has made it a lot easier because of his unselfish, team-first attitude. He steps up when he needs to step up, but is more concerned about his teammates being successful than he is with trying to compile stats. Roger comes to practice each day and gives 100 percent which motivates his teammates to do the same.” 

Rickman was honored at February's Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce Eggs and Enterprise Breakfast, held Tuesday, Feb. 28 at the Metropolitan Club in Alpharetta.
