Flag Flown at U.S. Capitol in Honor of River Eves

The flag was flown at the request of U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson during February.

Each year, members of the U.S. Congress request more than 100,000 flags flown over the U.S. Capitol building for distribution to their constituents, and on February 1, 2012, River Eves Elementary was selected for this special honor, at the request of the Honorable Johnny Isakson, U.S. Senator.

The flag was a hot auction item at the recent River Eves Education Foundation (REEF) spring gala—used to raise money to benefit the school and its students by funding technology needs not covered by the state or county.

The school has offered special thanks to Dr. Kelly Carson and Rich Raeside, REEF Board member for making arrangements to fly the flag on behalf of the school; to the Honorable Johnny Isakson, who personally called the school's team three times to ensure the arrangements were properly made; and to Chris Gowin, husband of Early Intervention Program Teacher, Susan Gowin, for purchasing the flag at the auction. This gift, from Gowin, is proudly displayed in our school office.

“We are so proud to have the honor of this special and unique gift,” said Neil Pinnock, principal of River Eves Elementary.  “It is very exciting to think of our elementary school being represented in this way over the revered U.S. Capitol.”
