'Free Art Friday' Comes to Roswell North Elementary

All of the school's students participated in making unique art for the digital scavenger hunt.

Roswell North Elementary is jumping in on the artsy action and joining a local movement called "Free Art Fridays," which has the purpose of making art accessible to all people.

Around the metro Atlanta, local artists "drop" small, handmade, artworks that are free for the taking. The idea is to get art out of the gallery and into everyday spaces. A sort-of scavenger hunt over Twitter, as artists tweet pictures of their artwork to encourage "takers" to find the hidden pieces. The "takers" then tweet back a thank you to the artist, showing that the artwork has been found, according to Fulton County Schools.

Jumping in on the trend, this Friday, May 10, schools throughout the county will hang artwork with string, wire or magnets or place the pieces in visible, yet obscure, common areas for students to find. At Roswell North, art teachers Dierdre Christian and Gina Steffensen have included artwork from all 1,100 students for their Free Art Friday drop-in.
