Fulton Schools Tech Competition is Saturday

Students in third through 12th grades will compete in 12th annual event.

Microsoft founder Bill Gates or the late Steve Jobs of Apple weren’t always a technology superforce. They probably got their start in school, perhaps at a technology fair.

The same future could happen for Fulton County students who are displaying their work at the Fulton school system’s annual Technology Competition this Saturday, Jan. 26.

Now in its 12th year, the Technology Competition will draw hundreds of students from across the county to Riverwood International Charter School for a showcase of technology mastery. The daylong event begins at 8 a.m.

Students in third through 12th grade will showcase their projects and compete for prizes in 13 categories: multimedia applications, non-multimedia applications, hardware, robotics, animated graphic design, non-animated graphic design, digital photography, 3-D modeling, web 2.0 internet applications, project programming, digital video editing, case modification and Individual Programming Challenge.

After judging is complete, awards ceremonies will begin at 3 p.m. for all grades. First place winners in each category and age group are eligible to participate in the state-level competition, held March 9 at Macon State College.

In the event of inclement weather, a make-up event is scheduled for Feb. 2. Riverwood International Charter School is located 5900 Raider Drive in Sandy Springs.
