Fulton to Hold Last Redistricting Meeting

Public input is requested at the last of Fulton County Schools three redistricting meetings regarding the Bethany Bend site.

Fulton County Schools will wind down the process for gathering public input with the final of three redistricting meetings held at Alpharetta High School, tonight, Wednesday, April 13.

The plan to give overcrowded area high schools some relief with the addition of a new high school at Bethany Bend has been met with some contention in North Fulton. Many parents and local residents didn't agree with the system's redistricting proposals, which were presented at the last public redistricting meeting in March. The new proposals to be reviewed at tonight's meeting are now available online.

System leaders have said the major redistricting is expected to affect all attendance zones north of the Chattahoochee River and impact roughly around 3,000 students of every level including high school, middle school and elementary school.

Tonight's meeting will ask community members to review and provide the school system with input based upon the following criteria: geographic proximity, capacity, projected enrollment, traffic, previous rezoning, special programs at schools and school feeder alignment. The alternative attendance zone maps will be revised one last time following tonight's meeting before being presented to the school board for a vote in June.

Whatever changes the system approves will go into effect when the yet-to-be named new school opens on the corner of Bethany Bend and Cogburn roads in Milton during August of 2012.

The two-hour meeting, which is expected to be well-attended, begins at 7 p.m. in the Alpharetta High School gymnasium, 3595 Webb Bridge Road.
