Goddard School Builds Outdoor Classroom

In preparation for Earth Day, Roswell's Goddard School on Woodstock Road recently built an outdoor classroom.

in Roswell recently recruited parents and staff to team up and build an outdoor classroom, as part of its goal to be as environmentally friendly as possible.
Around 30 families joined school faculty to make stepping stones, till and curate specific gardens, which included abutterfly garden, an herb garden and a vegetable garden. The group also created a mud kitchen, a music area, hang a bat box, a sensory area, weather station, art gallery, mud digging pit and a woodworking area.

The gardens are edged with bricks bearing the children's names-purchased as a fundraiser to defray the cost of the installation of the outdoor classroom. Thanks to donations from Home Depot and the parents, the school also added a rain barrel, an outdoor sink and a composter.

"This outdoor classroom has been a part of our ongoing improvement plan to expand the student's learning experiences to the outdoors," said school franchise owner, Chris Dibling-West. "The outdoor classroom is available for individual class use daily and is used as a curricular resource by our team of professional teachers."
