Hillside Elementary School PTA Honored with Several Local, State Awards

PTA members accepted the awards over the summer.

Though the halls of were quiet over the summer of 2012, the Hillside Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) was very busy accepting accolades.

The accomplishments of Hillside PTA were recognized not only at the local level, but also at the state level. For the second year in a row, the Hillside PTA earned Outstanding Local Unit (Elementary) from the North Fulton Council PTA. The Outstanding Local Unit award is the highest honor any local Georgia PTA unit can achieve and recognizes the PTA’s ability to accomplish its mission of cultivating involvement among parents, family and community members to impact student achievement.

Additionally, from the North Fulton Council PTA, the Hillside PTA earned the Connect with Council Award. The intent of Connect with Council Award is to provide support, assistance, and leadership training to PTA officers. Hillside is proud of their North Fulton Council PTA Executive Board Members, Stacy Christie and Diane Jacobi.

On the state level, Hillside PTA was honored for the second year in a row with a Model PTA Award from the State of Georgia Parent Teacher Association. This award recognizes Hillside for strong and effective processes for parent engagement, advocacy and partnership within the school community. The Georgia PTA also named Hillside PTA as Outstanding Local Unit (Elementary) 2nd Place and recognized Diane Jacobi with its Advocacy Award. Jacobi has served Hillside for many years in the legislative realm, continues to be a Hillside PTA member, and represents Hillside Elementary, Haynes Bridge Middle School and North Fulton Council PTA

“Congratulations to the Hillside PTA for kicking off the 2012-2013 year in grand fashion,” said Dr. Maisha Otway, principal of Hillside Elementary. “Our PTA has time and again proven its dedication to the students, families, teachers, and staff of Hillside Elementary. Their support is INVALUABLE to the work we do and we are so proud of their accomplishments.”
