Hillside ES Celebrates Career Day

Thanks to Elizabeth Warren of the Hillside Elementary School PTA for the information and photos from the school's first school-wide career day today:

What do you want to be when you grow up?  With an eye toward the future, Hillside Elementary School introduced its students to all kinds of career options and helped them make connections between what they are learning in the classroom and its importance in their futures.

This was Hillside’s first ever school-wide Career Day, a day of sharing for community members who discussed their educational backgrounds and day-to-day activities in the working world.

“Getting students up-close-and-personal with real and relevant jobs is a powerful way to encourage learning,” explains Brenda Levin, the school’s Counselor and the event’s coordinator.

Adult presenters came from professions including public safety, television media, psychology, health services, architecture, manufacturing, and banking. Nearly 40 local leaders shared their stories with the students.

These experiences help foster many important attributes for the kids including long-term skills, character growth, connection with community leaders, and inspiration leading to loftier career goals. Students from kindergarten through fifth grade all participated in both classroom rotations and expo tours.
