Holiday Basketball Tournament Benefits Memorial Cancer Fund for Blessed Trinity Grad

Proceeds from the Sam Robb Memorial Holiday Classic Basketball Tournament benefit the Sam Robb Fund at CURE Childhood Cancer.

Annamarie Robb can't do anything to bring back her son Sam, who died of cancer in 2007, but the .

“Our son, Sam, was a tremendous athlete and this tournament is a great way to honor his athletic and giving spirit, with local youth coming together to participate in a sport he loved and to support a cause that ultimately cost him his life,” said Robb, who organized the tournament.

This year the tournament will be held at , , Holy Redeemer Catholic School and St. Jude the Apostle School from Dec. 27-29. Teams are from the Catholic Metro League of Atlanta (CMLA), a recreational league for girls and boys in the 3rd to 8th grades, as well as other local Christian schools. Over 700 local youth representing 70 local teams will participate in this year’s event.

Within the past five years, the tournament has raised over $50,000 to benefit the Sam Robb Fund at CURE Childhood Cancer. Proceeds from the tournament will support the Sam Robb Fund and will be used for two primary purposes: to support the Sam Robb Fellow, Dr. Nicole Schlesinger, at the Aflac Cancer Center and Blood Disorders Services of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Emory University School of Medicine; and to help defray the costs of prosthetic devices for children with a cancer diagnosis who cannot afford to purchase and/or maintain them. 

“Nothing will bring Sam back to us, but we can ensure we are doing everything we can to support other families going through cancer treatment and to ultimately find a cure for childhood cancers,” Robb said.
