For the second time, Roswell's Mountain Park Elementary School has been named a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.
A total of 286 schools nationwide received the designation, which is made based on a school's overall academic excellence or progress in improving academic achievement.
Mountain Park was recognized as an “Exemplary High Performing” school. Seven other schools in Georgia earned Blue Ribbon status, and Mountain Park was the only school from the Fulton County School System.
“We are so proud of the learning and teaching at our school and are excited to be recognized for it,” Mountain Park Principal Stacy Perlman said in a statement. “We are a team of teachers, students, staff and parents all working for the success of our students. This award is a credit to the entire school community and their efforts.”
The schools will be formally honored in Washington Nov. 18-19.
Mountain Park first won the National Blue Ribbon Schools award in 2003. It also was named a Georgia School of Excellence in 2001.
