Several students from Roswell recently won the Georgia State Technology Competition at Macon State College.
Fifth grade Mountain Park Elementary student Oliver Niu won the Web 2.0 Internet Applications for the 5-6 grade for their creation of a safe, social networking website called "The Notebook Network." While third grader Viha Umashankar, from Hembree Springs, took first place in the MultiMedia category for her PowerPoint, "The Secrets of the Mysterious Burrow," a sequential stills production.

Niu marketed the site and had fifth graders at their school sign-up. Their teacher, Felicia Squaire, assisted with monitoring the site. Technology chairs Kati Searcy and Ellen Rubin helped the boys polish their project before entering the Fulton Technology Competition, which they won in January. District winners went on to the state competition.
"We are so proud of Oliver," said Mountain Park Principal Stacy Perlman.
