Roswell Girls Win Region Basketball Championship in Final Second

Lady Hornets defeat No. 1-seeded Alpharetta

The Roswell Lady Hornets entered the Region 6AAAAA basketball tournament as the No. 3  seed, but that didn't stop them from taking home the championship on Saturday.

For four quarters Roswell battled the Alpharetta Raiders in a see-saw contest in which neither team could maintain an advantage for very long.  At the end of the first quarter,  Alpharetta took a 10-5 lead, but by halftime Roswell had taken control, going into the locker room leading 19-15.

The third quarter remained close, with the Lady Raiders ekeing out a 28-27 advantage over the Hornets.

With less than a minute remaining in regulation and the score knotted at 35-35, the game appeared to be headed to overtime until Roswell's Andreona Keys was fouled in the act of shooting with 0.5 seconds remaining on the clock.  After missing the first free throw, she sank the second to put the Lady Hornets up, 36-35.

When Alpharetta was unable to get a shot off before time expired, the Roswell Lady Hornets became the Region 6AAAAA Basketball Champions.
