Roswell North Begins Technology Drive
The school's foundation is raising money for iPad training and support for teachers and for expanding online learning tools.
Thanks to Kellie Pelletier Macdonald of the Roswell North Elementary Foundation for sending this along about the group's technology fundraising drive that begins on Friday:
Roswell North Elementary Foundation (RNEF) and Roswell North Elementary School (RNE) Principal Kindra Smith kick off the 2013-2014 Annual Campaign with a goal of raising $30,000 to purchase technology equipment, training, and software. This initiative, called "Investing for Innovation," supports the school’s new three-year strategic plan to increase academic achievement, increase the students’ civic impact on their community, and increase the students’ application of real-world twenty-first century technical skills.
"In the past four years, the RNE community has enthusiastically embraced programs and technologies to enhance the education of our students and prepare them for the future," said RNEF Chairman Karen Braddy. "The initiatives this year will help our teachers approach classroom instruction in a way that is transformative and cutting edge. RNE is fortunate to have parents and supporters who have created a legacy of enrichment, providing funding for educational resources."

RNEF's Annual Campaign will run from Oct. 4 to Oct. 18. RNEF has prioritized the initiatives into two target amounts:
- $22,000
At the initial target of $22,000, the Foundation will fund additional iPad training for all teachers and support the successful IXL math software program for an additional year. RNEF will also implement Phase One of the Inspired Classroom model, adding an Inspired Classroom into each grade.

Inspired classrooms place technology closer to the fingertips of students by moving computers and laptops to the center of the classroom. In an Inspired Classroom, students have the chance to work more collaboratively on project-based assignments, which encourages problem-solving and facilitates cross-discipline instruction. This model is already in use at RNE by teachers Lisa Turner and John Weigand. Principal Smith intends to implement the model school-wide over the next several years.
- $30,000
At $30,000, the Foundation will expand online enrichment tools, such as typing programs and learning style assessment software. It will also create the Innovation Fund, a program for Roswell North teachers to apply for grants to purchase supplies for creative classroom and grade-level projects.
“I am so encouraged and inspired by the continued support of the Foundation," said Kindra Smith, RNE Principal. "It is truly committed to supporting the academic growth of all of our students by ‘filling the gap’ and providing tools and access to resources that we would not otherwise be able to provide for our students. As we establish ourselves as a school in this Charter district, the opportunities at Roswell North are endless.”
