Roswell's 'Music Class' Heads to India, China

The Music Class tour will kick off at the Dunwoody Arts Festival with a free concert for 1 -5 year olds.

The Music Class, a music education company based in Roswell, will perform a free concert in the Dunwoody Village Shopping Center as part of the Dunwoody Arts Festival on May 12.

The concert is geared toward children ages 1 - 5 and kicks off The Music Class international tour this spring, which includes performances in India and China.

“Our concerts allow as many people as possible to experience our music in a really fun way,” said Rob Sayer, founder and director of The Music Class.  “The shows are highly interactive, with lots of dancing, singing, and opportunities for the children to see and touch instruments like the drums, guitar, trumpet and saxophone.”

With approximately 1,700 students regularly enrolled in weekly parent/child classes around metro Atlanta, The Music Class in Atlanta is the largest early childhood music education center in the country. The Music Class curricula are also used by teachers in over 150 cities in North America and a growing number countries abroad, including India and China where we have rapidly growing teaching centers. Sayer and family will be meeting with about a dozen teachers in both India and China as part of their three week tour.

“The Music Class has always been a family business. My children, Brian and Raina, have recorded and written music for The Music Class since they were little. At our concerts this summer in Dunwoody, Mumbai and Guangzhou, Brian, now 15, will play drums and Raina, who is 22, will sing. In addition, when we’re in Asia my wife Michele and I will be leading classes and teacher workshops.”  said Sayer.

The Music Class programs are based on research of how young children learn music. The result is that taking class is much more than a fun activity for the moment, but in fact has a long lasting effect.

“In a survey we did of families 10 years after they were enrolled at The Music Class in Atlanta, 98 percent of our graduates reported that their experience in class provided a long term benefit - helping their child to more fully appreciate and enjoy music even ten years later,” said Sayer.

The free Dunwoody Arts Festival concert will take place on May 12 at the Kids Zone, next to Fresh Market, at 3 pm. For more information, visit The Music Class website or e-mail info@themusicclass.com
