Roswell Schools Become Hurricane Sandy Donation Centers

Here are a few practical ways you can help some of the young Hurricane Sandy victims. Three area schools will take donations until Nov. 30.

The heartbreaking images in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy are hard to look at; countless homes, businesses and schools have been left devastated by the destructive superstorm.

So moved are several local families that they've banded together and come up with a plan to help. Even better, it's a plan that they hope other community members get involved with, as well.

Schools have been somewhat overlooked in the rush to help. Many are struggling to resume classes without basic supplies while being housed in temporary locations. Locals coordinating the effort are asking Roswell families to pitch in and help our neighbors to the north by dropping off donated school supplies at Mountain Park Elementary School, Roswell North Elementary School or Sweet Apple Elementary School.

Find the list of requested donations below:

  • Gym Equipment: playground balls (not basketballs), sensory balls, bowling pins, jump ropes and bean bags
  • School Supplies: construction paper, Velcro (hard and soft), glue sticks, markers, colored pencils, crayons, scissors, laminating paper, manipulatives, (math and sensory such as Duplo blocks and other items to stack or put together), puzzles, books, pretend play items (food, dolls, etc.), rulers, pencils, pens, copy paper, lined handwriting paper
  • Small laminators
  • Mini trampolines (for special ed therapy)

Donations will be taken at each of the three schools until Nov. 30. For more information e-mail: sandyschoolsupplies@gmail.com.
