Roswell Schools Receive Grants to Serve Breakfast

Mimosa and Holcomb Bridge are two of the 12 schools involved in the Fulton County Schools project.

Two Roswell schools will now offer an alternative school breakfast, thanks to a more than $224,500 grant from the American Association of School Administrators to Fulton County Schools recently.

The program will be implemented in 12 high-need schools throughout the system.

Mimosa Elementary will offer "Breakfast in the Classroom," a program where students pick up a bagged breakfast from the cafeteria and take it to their classroom to eat before the school day begins.

Holcomb Bridge Middle will offer "Grab-n-Go" breakfasts. This model allows students to pick up a bagged breakfast from the cafeteria or from portable kiosks located throughout the school.

The main goal of both projects is to increase student access to a nutritious breakfast before the start of the school day.

"School breakfast not only supports student health and academic success, but also is a great value and a huge convenience for busy families," said Alyssia Wright, executive director of the School Nutrition Program in Fulton County Schools.

At Mimosa Elementary, students can eat breakfast at zero cost. While at Holcomb Bridge Middle the breakfast is priced at $1.20. Students can enjoy a guaranteed healthy meal at an incredibly wallet-friendly price.

Fulton is one of only six school systems in the nation to receive the grant funding.

The American Association of School Administrators will host a Kick-Off Meeting in Atlanta for the nation’s six grantees during May 16-17. To learn more about the Fulton County School Nutrition Program, visit the website
