School Board Hears Annual Enrollment Report

Fulton County Schools are expected to grow by 6,125 students over the next seven years.

During its Tuesday work session, the Fulton County School Board heard that forecasting models suggest the district will grow by more than 6,125 students over the next seven years.

Yngrid Huff, executive director of Operational Planning, told board members that recent growth has slowed, however.

The current enrollment (92,500 students) was 829 more students than last year, but nearly 300 fewer than projections, according to a press release from the school district.

It was the first school year since 1998 that the district did not grow by more than 1,000 students. Huff said that North Fulton schools saw the highest student growth. The Sandy Springs area had slight growth, but enrollment at South Fulton schools decreased.

According to the press release, enrollment forecasts each spring helps the district determine where new schools or classrooms may be needed. Enrollment forecasts are updated throughout the year.
