Two Roswell Students Attend Girl Scout Camp CEO

Rachel Grucza and Theresa Kilian learned a little about business during a recent camp.

students Rachel Grucza and Theresa Kilian got a dose of the life of successful business when they recently attended the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta, Inc. 2nd Annual Camp CEO.

The camp, held at at Camp Timber Ridge in Mableton, paired 30 Atlanta area senior executive businesswomen with teen Girl Scouts for four days to create mentor/mentee teams.

“Camp CEO is an exciting program bringing together executive women leaders with teen Girl Scouts to discover what it takes to become a CEO or senior executive,” says Marilyn Midyette, chief executive officer, Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta. “The Girl Scout mission is to build girls of courage, confidence and character who will make the world a better place. Camp CEO fulfills that mission. We connected our girls with accomplished businesswomen who are not only committed to a life of success, but to a life of significance.”

Kilian, a junior at Roswell, was matched with Laura Balser, principal managing director, Balser Companies (an NFP Company). Grucza, a sophomore, was paired with Sheree Williams, CFO, Assurance America Corporation.

The girls were very impressed by the variety of executive women leaders they encountered “and all they had to say.”

Activities and team building programs at Camp CEO included: “Dreaming Your Future” in which the executives shared life lessons in leadership with the girls; lessons in fiscal responsibility; building a personal brand; and speed networking. Also included were perennial Girl Scout traditions such as canoeing and making s’mores around the campfire.

Camp CEO is an annual event held each summer.  Senior executive women and Girl Scouts, grades 9-12, from the 34 county metro Atlanta region may apply.  Future dates and more information can be found online.
