Thanks to Caroline Barnes for sending along this information and photo from last Saturday's Georgia High School Fencing League tournament at Centennial High School.

More than 120 fencers from Pope, Milton, Centennial, South Forsyth, Lassiter, Johns Creek, Lambert and other high schools took part. Here's more on the Centennial Fencing Club:

The Centennial HS Fencing Club hosted a successful GA High School Fencing League Tournament (GHSFL) on Saturday, September 28th. According to CHS Fencing Coach Gene Gettler, the team made great improvement since the team's season-opening event Sept 7th.

Today six men and five women placed in the top 32 of their respective events. Four women and two men have already qualified for the Individual Championships.

Highlights: Women's Captain Dorothy Cannella placed 3rd in a field of 59. Coupled with her 1st place victory Sept 7, Dorothy is ranked #1 in the GHSFL among 97 competitors.

Men's Captains Nick Summers and Kenneth Blackwell finished 11th and 16th respectively, and are ranked 27th and 38th in a field of 131 competitors.

Rookie Jack Shields, fencing for only 1 month, showed his athleticism and quick adaptation to the sport of fencing by placing 31st.

Second year fencers Simon Miller (20th) and Jackson Barnes (28th) had standout performances, along with 3rd year fencer Winston Hessler (25th).

Also solid performances were turned in by Cori Bruce (10th), Katie Keith (15th), Holly Nichols (16th), and Amanda Sandfelder (22nd).

The Team's competitive season includes 7 regular tournaments, followed by
an Individual Championships in late February and a Team Championships in late February and a Team Championships in early March.
