Fellowship Christian Names Assistant Athletic Directors

Sandy Stephens will direct high school sports while Brad Welty will oversee the middle school sports program.

Fellowship Christian School has tapped two individuals to serve as its athletic directors.

Sandy Stephens will direct high school sports while Brad Welty will oversee the middle school sports program. 

Both had been chosen as interim assistant athletic directors in February.

“We are very fortunate to have these gentlemen as a part of our athletic program,” FCS Athletic Director Bryan Lindner. “They are both proven leaders and coaches who are committed to the success of our athletic program. They truly care about our student-athletes and our school.”   

Stephens, who joined FCS this season as assistant varsity football coach, has spent the past 12 years in coaching.

Welty has worked in education and coaching for 18 years, including eight years at Fellowship. He also has athletic administration experience at three schools.     

As a running back coach, Stephens helped Chattahoochee Technical College capture the 2011 NCFA National Championship. Stephens, a finalist for the 2012 Georgia Occupational Award for Leadership, also served as offensive coordinator for the Georgia Rampage professional arena football team from 2011 to 2013.

A member of the American Football Coaches Association and National Technical Honor Society, Stephens began his coaching career at Cherokee High School in Canton in 2001. He also coached at Blessed Trinity Catholic High School from 2008 to 2010 under former FCS head football coach Bob Lord, and was a linebacker coach at Kell High School in East Cobb before joining Fellowship Christian.

Stephens earned an associate of science degree in business administration from Chattahoochee Tech in 2013. He is currently enrolled at Reinhardt University in Cherokee County pursuing a bachelor’s of arts degree in organizational leadership and management. He retired from Delta Airlines in 2005.

Welty has earned more than 300 wins in 19 years as a head coach at the middle and high school levels. He has coached teams to four middle school league championships, two varsity region championships and two Elite 8 appearances.

Welty, who was named Region 1AAA basketball coach of the year in 2003, served as assistant athletic director at Mount Paran Christian School from 1999 to 2001, athletic director at Eastside Christian School from 2003 to 2006 and assistant athletic director at Fellowship from 2006 to 2011. During his nine years as an athletic director/assistant athletic director, Welty has helped start 13 new programs. 

During his career, Welty has also served as varsity boys basketball coach at Mount Paran, varsity girls basketball coach at North Cobb Christian, middle school boys and girls basketball coach at Eastside and middle school boys and girls coach at Fellowship Christian. Since 2011, he served as a teacher and coach at Fellowship.  

Welty earned a bachelor’s of science degree in physical education and a minor in Bible from Lee University in 1995.
