High School Football Predictions

Tough games on the slate for local teams.

I was humbled a bit last week in my predictions of high-school football games played in Patch coverage areas from Stone Mountain to Cumming.

After a can-you-believe-it 21-3 record the first week, I cooled off to a 16-6 mark last week (38-9 overall). I only missed badly on one pick. Really.

So, let's lace 'em up for another week. Are you ready?

Carrollton at Centennial: If the wants to gauge themselves against one of the state’s best, the chance comes to Roswell this Friday. Carrollton, the state runner-up in Class AAA and a 49-14 winner over the Knights last year, are 1-1 after splitting with two out-of-state opponents. That included a 42-7 win over Vanguard, Fla., in last week’s Georgia-Florida High School Football Challenge. Centennial (1-1) is coming off a 21-17 loss to North Cobb. A game like this has no impact on the Knights reaching the playoffs — the Region 6-AAAAA schedule begins in two weeks — but a competitive performance would be great. Carrollton 34, Centennial 24.

Roswell at Norcross: This is a matchup of teams heading in different directions. saw a two-touchdown lead over Collins Hills evaporate in its season-opener and hasn’t looked the same since. The Hornets (0-2) were beaten soundly 31-2 last week by Peachtree Ridge. Both of their losses have been on their home field. Norcross (2-0) has been impressive in wins over Dacula and Parkview, and the Blue Devils field one of the more balanced offense-defense lineups in the ‘burbs. And the Blue Devils can be awfully good on their home field. Norcross 35, Roswell 14.

Fellowship Christian at North Cobb Christian: This is second game against a team playing a non-region schedule. That doesn’t guarantee a win, but it’s a good start. Fellowship 21, North Cobb Christian 3.
