Roswell Hockey Player Competes in National Tournament

Brandon Romanos skates at Hockey Night in Boston.

In the state of Georgia no one would confuse hockey and football in terms of popularity. However; that hasn’t stopped Roswell’s Brandon Romanos from taking his athletic skills to the ice rather than the gridiron.

Last week Romanos took part in the Hockey Night in Boston summer showcase just outside of Boston. The tournament attracted nearly 400 players from over two dozen states as well as two Canadian provinces and Germany.

The tournament gave Romanos a chance to compete against some of the best high school players in the country - and he loved it all.

“It’s wonderful,” Romanos said. “Hockey down there is starting to grow. It’s really big for me to come up here. Coming up here is awesome; playing with the northern players is a big difference than playing with the kids down in the South because the talent range is just so great.”

Born in Connecticut, a hotbed of high school and prep school hockey, Romanos’ father played college hockey at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, and Romanos brought his love for the game with him when he moved south.

“My goal next year is to lead the league in scoring,” Romanos said. “I led my team last year for Roswell.

“I can’t play travel [hockey] next year so I came here to try to get noticed, and I have a few junior teams asking me to play.”
