Roswell's Germaine Qualifies for 2013 Jr World Championships

Germaine will compete on the 2002 Olympic luge track next week.

Raychel Germaine, of Roswell, qualified Wednesday for the 2013 Junior World Championships in Park City, Utah next week.

Theresa Buckley, of Allentown, Pa. won a three-way competition, finishing ahead of Germaine and Sami Carone, of Park City, during the race-off Wednesday. Carone was eliminated by 0.04 of a second over the two heats.

Buckley, a winner of two youth division Junior World Cups in Park City to start the 2011-2012 season, posted 1:30.316. Germaine was next in 1:30.899, with Carone third in 1:30.948.

The U.S. group that will tackle the 2002 Olympic track Jan. 15-16 against 14 other nations.

The event is for luge athletes to the age of 20.

In addition to Germaine and Buckley, Emily Sweeney and Summer Britcher will round out the U.S. women's field at the championships. Ty Andersen, Riley Stohr, Aidan Kelly and Tucker West make up the U.S. men’s field next week.

Event training continues through Jan. 14. On Sunday Jan. 13, the event’s Opening Ceremonies will be held on Main Street in Park City at 10 p.m. EST.

Singles races will be held on Jan. 15 starting at 11 a.m. EST. Doubles and the Team Relay are set for Jan. 16 beginning at 12 noon EST.
