The Torch is Lit: North Fulton Golden Games Begin

Roswell Mayor Jere Wood exhorts city residents to do whatever it takes to win in his tongue-in-cheek remarks during opening ceremonies for the Golden Games.

Mayors from Roswell, Alpharetta, Milton and Johns Creek helped kick off the North Fulton Golden Games this morning at Newtown Park, May 1, as hundreds of residents got ready for the first day of competition.

After the colors were presented, the Star Spangled Banner was sung and the torch was lit, it was time for some friendly competition between the mayors. Roswell Mayor Jere Wood handily won the hula hoop competition, and received the trophy for his city.

Once that was over, the North Fulton residents aged 50 and older walked as a parade to the first day's event, which were field events.
