Alive After 5: No Cars Allowed in July

The city has approved closing Canton Street for the July Alive After 5 event.

Roswell City Council recently approved closing Canton Street for the July Alive After 5 event.

"Many of you have asked that the event close part of the street, so we are going to give it a try in July," stated a recent post on the event's Facebook page.

After seven years, Alive After 5 organizers will begin to work with the city to shut down south Canton Street from Norcross Street to Magnolia Street.

Roswell's will post detour signs prior to the closing on July 19.

Norcross Street will remain open and Roswell Police will be on hand to help detour vehicles, according to event organizers.

"We will want your feedback after the July event to let us know if the street closing made the event better for our guests or if it caused more problems than helped," states the Facebook page.

How do you feel about the closure? Will it encourage you to go or stay away?

Hi Stephen, Roswell City Hall parking lot should have plenty of space, as well as a trolley to take you to several stops along Canton Street, if you don't feel like walking across Hwy 9.

Something needs to be done to address the traffic/parking problems during the weekends as well. I love Canton St., but I've stopped going because it is so frustrating. There are no traffic problems on the new green in Duluth... I'm spending more time there these days.

Canton St is very nice and a lot of people are enjoying it. However, I think without some careful attention to pedestrian safety at all times ( not just AA%), this great place is going to suffer from critical mass. Already the area around Nine is a mess . Once you get further north on Canton St. it is nicer.

Need to close Canton all the way up to Woodstock. This past week the cars were parked and going nowhere. All the pedestrians were crowded to the small sidewalk and breathing exhaust fumes. I will go again when there are no cars.

What time will Canton be closed?
