'Operation Drywater' Begins This Weekend
Rangers to distribute boating safety literature at parks and boat ramps.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources wants boaters to keep "dry" this summer.
To promote boating safety and discourage boating under the influence, particularly with the Fourth of July approaching, rangers will hand out boating safety literature this weekend.
The DNR is teaming with the Corps of Engineers to supply all local parks and boat ramps with boating safety handbooks and information sheets on laws and safety this weekend. The materials will be handed to every boater while supplies last.
DNR Rangers will also set up a mobile intoxilyzer at Gwinnett County Park for when suspected drunken boaters are arrested.
According to the DNR, rangers have made 63 arrests so far this year on state lakes and waterways in Georgia, and a total of 180 in 2012.
