Thousands Enjoy Ice Cream While Helping Homeless Families

Roswell's Drake House was the beneficiary of Miss Mary's Ice Cream Crankin' on Sunday afternoon.

All the homemade ice cream you can eat drew thousands of people from all over North Fulton and the surrounding area to the Historic Roswell Town Square for an ice cream social to benefit The Drake House on Sunday afternoon.

It was time for the 8th annual Miss Mary's Ice Cream Crankin', and local businesses, civic organizations and churches were out in force with tubs of the frozen treats with many flavors.

When families weren't moving from booth to booth to sample the homemade ice cream, they were watching the kids compete in ice cream eating contest. With faces buries in bowls of quickly melting ice cream, the kids in different age groups competed for prizes going to the fastest boy and girl. Then it was time for the ice cream cone stacking contest, with the kids trying to stack the most scoops of ice cream they could in just a minute. The challenge was keeping the ice cream on the cone.

The local organizations provided sponsorships for the privilege of making homemade ice cream and giving out scoops in the afternoon, while families paid $20 each and individuals $5 to get to enjoy all the ice cream, music and a Kids' Korner complete with the requisite inflatable bounce house and face painting.

A few hours later and it was the task of the Boy Scouts of Troop 87 out of Roswell Presbyterian Church and others to clean up the square.
