Sunday Sales...Of the Alcohol Kind

The hard truth of how I feel about Sunday alcohol sales. Agree or disagree...it's finally the people's choice and not the state's.

So, it seems that the majority has spoken. Anywhere from Nov. 20 through February 2012 the Sunday alcohol sales will begin in the towns that voted to okay the new law. In fact, 51 metro Atlanta jurisdictions voted it to be a go.

Let us not forget the one hold out town, Palmetto. Now, I'm not familiar with that town, so I won't past judgement, but will predict if anyone wants to pick up a bottle of wine on a Sunday, they'll take their money to the town closest to them to purchase it.

I'm not going to say that Sunday sales will increase revenue. We've all become accustom to buying on Saturdays to make sure we are covered for Sunday should we have a special occasion planned. I understand not everyone drinks, however, the following is my opinion. Agree or disagree, but by all means, give me your opinion.

My thoughts on the issue:

If you want to drink on a Sunday, buy your alcohol on Saturday, as we were previously trained to do. Better yet, buy it on Sunday.

If I can go to a sports bar or restaurant on a Sunday and drive home after drinking, why can't I just do it at home should I decide at the last minute?

At the same time, the metro Atlanta area's cup is running over with transplants and visitors that just don't understand what a 'blue law' is. I'm okay with that. I grew up in the South. My ideas are different from my parents on so many things because the one thing they raised me to be was a free thinker. With that being said...

Don't proclaim to be one of those "Sunday Christians." Yep.  I said it. You think Sunday should be a day for God and family. I find that hypocritical.

Everyday should be a day for God and family. If you don't want to drink on Sunday just don't do it. If you feel that Sunday is a day for God, family and giving thanks, so be it. Go for it. Why do you have the right to decide that other people must agree with what you think?

You don't need a church or designated day to worship. Giving thanks to your God, be it Christian or what have you, is what matters. If there are issues with drinking on Sundays, don't drink on any other day.

If you talk the talk, walk the walk. Should I sit back and say, "Oh, it's Monday and I praised God on yesterday (on Sunday) so it's okay for me to drink today." Nope.  I don't think that's the case.

I work on Sundays. I'll be the first to say, I drink. I don't drink everyday. I don't drink and drive.

I'll also say that if I have a hard day at work and want a glass of wine and hot shower on a Sunday, I shouldn't 'pre-plan' that based on other people's religious idealism. Believe it or not, not everyone is a Christian conservative in this state. I was born and raised as an Alabama a baptist and the fear of Jesus Christ almighty was presented to me at an early age. However, as I said before, my parents raised me with an open mind.

People just want the simple option to buy on Sundays. That's it. There's no, "if you can't live on day with out alcohol then you have issues." Trust me, if that's the case, you need not worry. Those people are drinking seven days a week already.

The old fashion "Sunday is for God and family" days are not the only options people have anymore. That's what I love about this country.

The people have spoken. Sell the wine, beer and liquor.

Don't worry. Church bound people won't be drunk when they get there. Unless they bought on Saturday and start drinking before service. The new law states we can't buy until after 12:30 p.m. on Sundays.

Whatever. People are going to drink when they want on any day when they want.  Why fight it?

How about no tobacco sales on Sunday? No tattoos on Sunday? How about no freedom of anything unless it's approved by a Christian?

It's not fair for others to decided in the great state of Georgia, what I can and can't do on Sunday.

Bottom line: If you don't agree with on drinking on Sunday due to religion, don't drink at all. I'm thinking Jesus, God and what have you won't be judging you for drinking on Sunday if you are drinking on the other six days of the week.

Think twice before passing judgement. That's not a very "Christian" thing to do, now is it? I heard someone say that if you can't stop from drinking on a Sunday then ...etc...etc...etc...

The fact is, God bless the U.S.A. Be it any day of the week, I might just drink alcohol on Sunday even if I don't drink any other day of the week. Of course, I'm more than likely to drink on a Saturday currently, due to SEC football...bleeding Crimson...Roll Tide Roll.
